Volunteers…..The Heart of Hospice

Hospice volunteers are a critical part of the Woodland Hospice team. At no time is a helping hand more important than when loved ones are undergoing the stress associated with a family member’s incurable illness.

Our Volunteers Can:

  • Provide direct client care
  • Respite for family members
  • Companionship
  • Homemaking services
  • A sympathetic ear
  • Run errands
  • Build ramps
  • Work in the hospice office
  • Help with fundraisers
  • Serve on various hospice committees
  • And many other Services

What Volunteering Can Do For You:

“It’s instant gratification, and–let’s face it–I’m a 24 year old American girl and can dig a good dose of instant pleasure at any time of day. I’ve been a hospice volunteer for almost two years. This honor has awarded me a number of amazing experiences–none are truly explainable–all irreplaceable. Death is a scary thing. It can scare the dickens out of me if I allow myself to think too long about no longer existing. Hospice doesn’t necessarily help me to understand death. Rather, it allows me to become more comfortable with my humanness. My experiences with hospice remind me that we are all very much the same. Instant gratification–it’s walking into a stranger’s home to offer support, or into the hospice office to answer phones for a couple of hours and knowing instantly that I am needed and absolutely necessary. I love that feeling.” -Jen Capua, Hospice Volunteer
